These days, even a cheap PC video card will have over 100 'cores', whilst the Pi has only 2 ! However, the Pi desktop is a lot simpler than the multi-display 'aero' garbage used on the PC, so those 2 cores CAN deliver decent graphics speed on the Pi. Stellarium makes massive use of the OpenGL graphics libaries - which, on a PC, will be supported by the GPU hardware on your video card.
